Kasonso- Busanga – 7,780 sq. km
The wide range of habitats includes open grassy plains which are a mixture of dry to wet grassland, dense thickets, miombo woodland and swamp. The floodplain areas are dotted with termite hills and isolated stands of trees.
The wildlife species present are African Elephant, African Buffalo, Zebra, Hippopotamus, Warthog, Eland, Roan Antelope, Sable Antelope, Blue Wildebeest, Hartebeest, Waterbuck, Red Lechwe, Reedbuck, Puku, Impala, Oribi, Yellow-backed, Common and Blue Duikers, Grysbok, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Spotted Hyena and Side-stripped Jackal.
Chizera GMA – 2,280 sq. km
The vegetation type consists of swamp, floodplain and open grassland The woodland types are miombo, Kalahari and Chipya. There are two forests reserves within the GMA – Chibombo National Forest and Mufumbwe Local Forest.
The species present are African Buffalo, Sitatunga, Hartebeest, Waterbuck, Roan Antelope, Sable Antelope, Impala, Oribi, Leopard, Bushbuck, Reedbuck and Puku.
Musele-Matebo – 3,700 sq. km
This GMA has miombo, kalahari and chipya woodland. There are areas of open grassland and swamp.
The wildlife though in small numbers are Hippopotamus, Puku, Impala, Sable Antelope, Waterbuck, Sitatunga, Oribi, Common Duiker, Warthog and Bushpig.
Lukwakwa – 2,540 sq. km
Most important habitat is the Mavunda, these are tall dry ever green forest which grows on Kalahari sand. There are strips of riparian forest dambos and swamp, there are also a few rocky outcrops.
The wildlife species though in small numbers include African Elephant, African Buffalo, Hippopotamus, Puku, Impala, Bushbuck, Hartebeest, Reedbuck, Oribi, Yellow-backed, Common and Blue Duikers and Sable antelope.
Together with the West Lunga National Park which is on its eastern boundary this GMA is Important Bird Area (IBA) # 5. This GMA has 249 bird species recorded.
There is an interesting selection of species. These include Denham’s and White -Bellied Bustards, Wattled Crane, Margaret’s Batis, Bateleur, African Marsh Harrier, Great Snipe, Yellow-billed and Red-billed Ox-peckers, Bar-winged Weaver, Lappet-Faced Vulture and Southern Ground Hornbill.
Chibwika-Ntambu – 1,550 sq. km
This GMA has Miombo and Termitaria woodland, with open grassland and dambos. There are areas of swamp and floodplain..
The wildlife though depleted includes include Buffalo, Hippopotamus, Puku, Impala, Oribi, Bushbuck, Hartebeest, Sitatunga and Bushpig
