Tourism and Arts Minister Ronald Chitotela has called for stronger
collaboration between France and Zambia to grow the tourist
arrivals from that country.
Speaking when French Ambassador to Zambia Sylvain Berger paid
a courtesy call on him at his office yesterday, the Minister said
initiatives like exchange programmes could help would be tourists
to Zambia learn more about the country.
He appreciated the interest and support that French embassy has
already shown in the Kasanka National Park in Central Province.
Hon. Chitotela called on the ambassador to engage the hotel
industry in France to come set up international brand French hotels
that would create more market for lovers of such facilities.
And Ambassador Berger said Zambia offers fantastic environment
in both tourism and arts.
He said the last 10,000 French tourist arrivals to Zambia is too small
compared to the 170,000 that visited South Africa, considering the
peace and safety record that country enjoys.
The diplomat said his embassy signed an agreement with that
would see exchange programmes between Zambia Institute of
Tourism and Hospitality Studies and a French university for
Ambassador Berger said the embassy has so far injected a total of
Euro 200,000 in the conservation programme at Kasanka.
He said France 24 Television is available to broadcast promotional
content for Zambia’s tourism marketing.
