Eastern Province GMAs

Lupande – 4,840 sq. km
Mopane and  Acacia woodland, floodplain and wooded hilly country. Areas of open grassy woodland and grass plains.

Wildlife is common includes African Elephant, African Buffalo, Zebra, Thornicroft’s Giraffe, Hippopotamus, Warthog, Eland, Roan Antelope, Greater Kudu, Common Waterbuck, Hartebeest, Puku, Impala, Bushbuck, Cookson’s Wildebeest (Upper Lupande mainly), Lion, Leopard, Spotted Hyena and Nile Crocodile

Lumimba – 4,500 sq. km
Large grassland plains, riverine thickets, mopane woodland mixed with acacia woodland in places. Hilly country with numerous watering points and thickets and treeline.

WIldlife species include African Elephant, African Buffalo, Zebra, Hippopotamus, Warthog, Eland, Roan Antelope, Greater Kudu, Common Waterbuck, Hartebeest, Puku, Impala, Bushbuck, Klipspringer, Cookson’s Wildebeest Lion, Leopard and Spotted Hyena

West Petauke – 4,140 sq. km
Three rivers mark the boundaries of this GMA. Among them are riverine woodland, dambos, flooplain and well watered grasslands. Mopane woodland on the lower lying area and miombo in the hilly country.

Species present are African Elephant, African Buffalo, Zebra, Warthog, Hippopotamus, Eland, Roan antelope, Common Waterbuck, Greater Kudu, Hartebeest, Bushbuck, Puku, Impala, Klipspringer, Lion, Leopard, Spotted Hyena and Nile Crocodile.

Sandwe – 1,530 sq. km
Mopane woodland, dambos and floodplains. Acacia woodland in places and thickets.

Wildlife that is present includes African Elephant, African Buffalo,  Zebra, Warthog, Eland, Roan Antelope, Common Waterbuck, Greater Kudu, Impala, Puku, Common Duiker, Grysbok, Lion and Leopard
